The study said to close your eyes and try to experience God comforting you and explore what comes to mind. Not my usual way of doing things, but i thought i would give it a go. When I closed my eyes, i was flooded with unexpected emotions and memories.
Comfort became the bear hug I received from an older man in the congregation after i shared my testimony. It was firm, strong, and steady. The kind of hug that embraces you to your soul and says "I see you", "your story doesn't frighten me", and "I love you". It acknowledged my past without condemnation and embraced my vulnerabilities with love. It was the kind of hug that Jesus would give. I tried the same exercise with peace and received another memory. I believe God was speaking to me with memories so iwould be reminded of all the times he had already come through. Peace is the golden light that encompassed my car that cold December night. It's that moment in time where love, joy, and hope were so overwhelming, there wasn't room for anything else. When God completely surrounds you and permeates your core, when joy is taste on the tip of your tongue and love is a tactile sensation, and when hope is an aroma that you can inhale, peace comes and never really leaves in spiteof the storms raging outside the window.
